Statement on Explosion at CSX Coal Terminal

The Community Association of Curtis Bay is alarmed by the explosion at the CSX coal facility in our community this morning. While we are relieved to learn that there appear to be no injuries, we are deeply concerned about the impact of the explosion on local and regional air pollution. Furthermore, we are amplifying the reports of broken windows and other damages from local residents and business owners. The association is actively communicating with district 10 council representative Phylicia Porter, Curtis Bay residents, and environmental health experts to develop solutions for how to best move forward in the wake of this concerning event.

The association has made environmental justice a cornerstone of its work. In the coming days, we will be working to support residents directly impacted by the force of the explosion. We will also be meeting with elected/appointed officials and environmental experts to assess the immediate harm felt as a result of this explosion.
