Brownfield Regeneration

In addition to having a concentration of polluting fossil fuel and waste infrastructure, Curtis Bay has several large contaminated brownfield sites. Our vision is see these brownfields become sites for regeneration, conservation and community led development. We believe this transformation is possible and we are taking steps to make it a reality. One such site, a 64 acre city owned and DPW controlled former landfill site is both a source of concern and hope for our community. We partnered with students at the Ecological Design Collective to produce this field guide as an initial step in realizing a community owned development process for this large open green-space. This is a working document that shows the incredible bio-diversity on the land despite decades of dumping and hazardous use.
